Ah, summer. Time to bring on the beach trips, balmy weather and a much-needed blogging break. It’s been a busy six months getting my business up and running, so the timing felt right for a mid-year pause.
I hope this is a restful time for everyone else as well. I tend to be on my phone less and outside more in the summer, all things that contribute to an overall better mental health state. (But if you are looking for some feel-good social media content, I recommend checking out the guide I put together: 50 Instagram Accounts to Boost Your Mental Health.)
Recently, I’ve had the chance to connect with so many other mental health and eating disorder advocates. It’s quite inspiring! A question that pops up often is how to approach conversations around sensitive topics, like mental illness. For tips, take a look at this post on what not to say when someone discloses their eating disorder.
I look forward to keeping the conversation around eating disorder recovery going for the rest of the year!
Giving thanks for your support
I have to thank everyone who took the time to vote for me in the Mental Health Blog Awards! It was truly an honour to be recognized in the Micro Influencer and Blogger of the Year categories. We’ll see if I make it to the next round!
My blog has also been recognized as one of Feedspot’s 100 Best Eating Disorder Blogs and Websites. Woo! Very cool to be included on this list.
Upcoming eating disorder events
- In July, I’ll be a guest on one of my favourite eating disorder podcasts: Full of Beans! Host Hannah Hickinbotham is on a mission to share and support the unheard voices of eating disorders. In our chat, we’ll be diving into the overlap between social anxiety and eating disorders.
Learn more: I loved Hannah’s recent episode with Bella Maki, called Supporting Siblings & Self. - Also in July, I’ll be joining the Recovery Project Foundation for an event about social media and eating disorders. This is a relatively new organization that is already doing amazing things. The Recovery Project Foundation is a Canadian charity helping cover the medical expenses for eating disorder treatments, since public healthcare can’t meet the demand.
Learn more: Apply for a grant from the Recovery Project Foundation. - One of Canada’s top eating disorder charities, Sheena’s Place (where I used to volunteer while living in Toronto!), is celebrating their 25th Anniversary with a gala on Wednesday, June 22nd. All proceeds go towards supporting people affected by an eating disorder, and there’s an option to attending virtually as well.

Blog & business updates
While I’ve been diligent at sticking to a weekly blogging schedule, this summer will look a bit different. Expect less blog posts and social media presence. But not to worry, things will back-to-business in the fall! In the meantime, feel free to let me know about any topics you’d like to see covered. I’m always open to feedback and suggestions.
In the background, I’ll be preparing a course I’m teaching with the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health’s (CAMH) Collaborative Learning College. It will focus on mental health advocacy burnout, a topic many of us will find relatable. Stay tuned for more details!
I’m slotting in speaking gigs with universities and colleges for the fall, too. If you would like me to join a campus Wellness Week or other mental health event, don’t hesitate to get in touch.
And on that note, it’s time to log off and get some sunshine! Happy Summer.☀️
Happy 6 monthaversary !!
